Purpose

Nature-Based Zen Studio

Traditional Zen art techniques are highly versatile, environmentally friendly and inherently beautiful. Zen profoundly respects nature and considers it sacred. It does not try to manage or control nature but instead manifests in a profound spiritual bond with nature. Harmony with nature means that both man and nature live together as one and are accepting of each other's power, and that is the concept we wish to create in Sakya Zen Studio.

We are driven by a strong sense of social responsibility. We know how our art and culture is connected to larger cultural forces.  Learning the lessons found in nature can benefit both ourselves and others.  All the workshops in SAKYA Zen Studio are the medium of choice for eco-conscious artists and we want to share our knowledge with you.

Our materials are locally sourced and sustainably gathered. We use local camphor wood for carving. Clay for pottery and sculpting is collected from our own land. Moss and selected plants for mini Bonsai are grown in our own green house. The blue Quandong seed is collected from our yard for making pray beads and bracelets.

One of our core missions is to act as a cultural exchange envoy, fostering a bridge between cultures. We believe that in this way, traditional culture will never be lost.

By creating a space where Artists feel the love from nature and learn art by using the natural materials around us , people will learn to respect and love nature deeply from the heart.  Like a seed of kindness and love, this may have a profound effect on all our lives.
